Today in the US gay marriage rights seem to be winning the socia, media, and political battle while the abortion mills keep slaughtering thousands of unborn children a day. At the same time, here in Chicago there were a dozen people shot last night (on Good Friday) and one was killed in five different incidents all across the city.

On top of the urban violence, abortion, and gay agenda the church is suffering both a gross moral and spiritual decline in over whelming ways. The pastor of the largest Fundamental Baptist church in Hammond Indiana (over 40,000 members) was just sentenced to 12 years in jail for having sexual relations with a 16 year old girl and bringing her across state lines. A well known “Christian” author (Rob Bell) has recently came out to support gay marriage and deny hell in two New York Times best selling books.

Not to mention the many pastors that are refusing to mention sin, hell, and judgment from the pulpit having fear of “offending people.” Plus, Protestants everywhere that have been celebrating the ordaining of the new Pope forgetting and overlooking all the sex-scandals and deceit that have plagued the Roman Catholic Church for years.

What To Do?

What’s a pastor to do in times like these? What are Christians to do? A nation? As complex and vast the issues may be, I believe the answer is simple- “preach the word.” Paul said to his spiritual son Timothy that the last days would be “terrible times,” but the man of God would be thoroughly equipped for such times by the Word of God. Paul then explained the role of the Scriptures in the following verses;

2 Timothy 4:2-5

2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage —with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Therefore, in times like these let us all preach God’s word! Dear Christian don’t give up- get fired up and let the world know God’s truth. Just like how Jonah’s preaching to the Ninevites brought them to repentance, the preaching of God’s Word in the US can change the heart of our nation!

Here are five ways to preach God’s Word in times like these:

  1. Preach God’s Word In Truth
  2. Preach God’s Word With Grace
  3. Preach God’s Word In Love
  4. Preach God’s Word With Holy Ghost Power
  5. Preach God’s Word Without Compromise
