Today, like never before, modern man has been given countless definitions of “self.” From pop culture self help books promoted by talk show hosts to ancient religions, the question “Who Am I?” has been given many different answers. However, the Bible answered this question clearly thousands of years ago and its answer still remains true today. It is my prayer that this sermon will help you know who God says you really are and that you will be the person He created you to be.

SERIES TEXT

Genesis 1:27, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

THE TRUTH ABOUT ALL HUMANITY

  1. CREATED HOLY: All were created in the image of God, Genesis 1:27.
  2. FALLEN IN ADAM: All were born sinners because of Adam’s fall, Romans 5:12.
  3. SINNERS BY CHOICE: All have chosen to freely sin, Romans 3:23.

TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE

  1. SAINTS: Those have been born again, John 3:3-17, Ephesians 1:1, Colossians 1:2, & 1 Peter 2:9.
  2. SINNERS: Those who haven’t been born again, John 3:18-21.

TWO KINDS OF SAINTS

  1. DISCIPLES: Those who live in freedom from sin, John 8:31-36.
  2. WORLDLY CHRISTIANS: Those who live in bondage to sin, 1 Corinthians 3:1-3, Galatians 3:1-3, & Colossians 2:20-23.

HOW TO IDENTIFY WHO YOU ARE

1. Have you been born again?

If “no” then you are still a “sinner.” If “yes” then you are a “saint.”

2. After being born again do you still live in bondage to sin? (Do you feel powerless against sin and live defeated?)

If “yes,” then you are a “worldly Christian.”

3. Since being born again are you free from all sin? (Has sin become rare in your life and always lead to repentance and change?)

If “yes,” then you are truly a “disciple of Christ.”

Has the Devil’s Work Been Destroyed in Your Life?

1 John 3:8-9, “8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.”
