Preachers are not just story tellers, though they will tell stories. They are not just encouragers, though they will encourage the soul. They are not just teachers, though they will teach the deep things of God. They are not just godly examples, though they will always lead from the front. They are not just visionaries, though they will bring forth great things from God. They are not just mentors, though they will give their lives to pour into others.

They are all these things combined and so much more…

Preachers are children of God who have been rescued from sin by the grace of God and called to be a witness of the life changing power of the gospel.

So when you see your pastor standing behind the pulpit tomorrow in front of all your friends and family, with everyone’s attention fixed on them- remember what you are seeing and hearing- you are participating in the ancient practice of our forefathers; who bore their testimony concerning Christ- even in the presence of their enemies and unto death.

You are receiving the faith, once and for all handed down to the saints, the only message whereby humanity might be saved. The one we will all be judged by.

Saints, please pray for us as we stand before God and men; that we might hide behind the cross of our Savior, who covered us in His righteousness and make Jesus irresistible to all who hear of His great love!

Pastor, so when you’re standing behind the pulpit tomorrow on the Lord’s Day with your heart beating through your chest, sweaty palms, dry mouth and a thousand thoughts racing through your mind… remember to look to your left and to your right, you are standing with your brothers and sisters- you are not alone. We together in this generation are all saying in unison, “Whether by life or by death, may the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering!”

1 Peter 1:11, “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.”
