John 7:38, Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

The day Jesus said the above verse the Jewish priests would go to the temple in Jerusalem and pour out a jug of water from the Pool of Siloam to symbolize the outpouring of God’s favor upon their lives, Isaiah 12:3 & Jeremiah 2:13.  While everyone was watching the water run down the steps of the temple Jesus said those very important words and got everyone’s immediate attention.

However, He wasn’t just referring to the inner blessings of God coming like rain to the deserts of people’s hearts, but rather the continual flowing and presence of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life.  Jesus was using the water as in illustration of the living water of salvation coming from the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the forever abiding presence of God in the believer not just for the filling of one’s soul, but also to flow through one’s soul like streams of water to the dry world around them.  Hence, today you’re not only to be filled for what you need, but also to be overflowing with God’s presence and power to meet other’s needs.

Just like how Jesus said in the “Our Father” prayer, “give us our daily bread,” you’re not to just have enough bread for yourself, but enough to share with others.  Take some time today to pray and ask God to not only meet your needs but also overflow through you to meet the needs of others!

The Holy Spirit has enough refreshing water for everyone’s specific needs and dry places.  Therefore, be filled and overflowing today with His living water!

Reflection

Is the Holy Spirit flowing through you today?

Action

  1. Ask God to flow His streams of living water through you today by the Holy Spirit.
  2. Pray for God to use you to bring His presence with you wherever you go.
  3. Look for opportunities today to be a “water hose” for Jesus and pour out the love of God!
